Nowadays, you are not just limited to cleaning your floor with a mop and bucket, there are a whole host of other methods and tools that you can use to get your floors shining like they are brand new!
One of the newer and most popular ways to cleanse the floors in your home is with the steam mop. These types of mops utilize steam to clean and sanitize the floors, and make them more hygienic and shiny.
On the other hand, you can use the Bissell Spinwave mop. This is typically the middle option between a normal mop and a steam mop.
So, we’re here to compare the two and see which one is the winner.
Bissell Spinwave vs. Steam Mop
The Bissell Spinwave mop and the steam mop are quite similar in looks, but the two clean in very different ways.
This is why we are going to look in depth at how both work, how they clean, and how they compare with each other, to see which is best, and help you find which will be the right option for you.
How do they clean?
Steam mops are created with a water tank or reservoir included. These can typically contain about 10-20 ounces of water.
When the steam mop is turned on, it will heat up this water to over 200 degrees, and then you will have to squeeze the handle to pump out the steam onto your floors to clean them.
The extreme temperatures of the steam mop will lift and loosen any grime, dirt or debris on your floor, whilst also killing up to 99.9% of germs.
This is done completely by the steam, and there is no need for expensive cleaning solutions or soaps to do so, which also means that you never get streaks or residue left on your floors.
You will generally have to attach a head to the steam mop, with a cloth pad on top, and just move it back and forth across the floors, by pushing and pulling, which makes the steam mop quite easy to use.
On the other hand, the SpinWave works in a different way to the steam mop. Like the steam mop in some ways, the SpinWave has its own water reservoir too, but with the SpinWave, you need to use a cleaning solution with the water.
These can be purchased specifically designed for the Bissell SpinWave, and the types of flooring that you wish to use it on.
The SpinWave also has a wide head, with two round pads that spin as you mop to get a deep cleanse, providing more of a scrubbing action than the traditional mops or steam mops.
However, because the SpinWave needs a cleaning solution, there can sometimes be streaks left along your floors depending on the products you use.
What types of floors can they be used on?
The great thing about steam mops is that they can be used on multiple types of floors, including marble, ceramic, linoleum and some can even be used to clean carpets.
However, they are not recommended for hardwood floors, or laminate floors as these can become damaged easily by the deep cleansing technique of the steam mop.
In addition, you will have to be careful when using a steam mop on your floors because of the moisture in the steam, and the high temperatures.
You should treat this much like a steaming hot iron, as you should not leave a steam mop on the floor in one place for too long, as it can ruin the floor in that one particular spot, much like if you left an iron on a t- shirt.
The great thing about the SpinWave mop in this sense is that it is suitable for all types of floors. You can use warm water with the SpinWave, but it does not reach extremely warm temperatures, and so can be used on all different types of flooring, risk free.
The best types of floors to clean the SpinWave with are bare, hard and sealed floors, so you really can do a lot with it. However, unlike the steam mop, you cannot clean a carpet with the SpinWave.
If you are looking for a new, fresh alternative to a regular mop and bucket, then both the steam mop and the SpinWave would be an excellent choice for you.
However, it is worth thinking about which types of floors you want to clean, and how you want to do so, to help you choose the best one for you.
Whilst neither need a big mop and bucket filled with water to function, and are pretty self contained, they are both really useful cleansing tools to use.
With their own water tanks, you will never again have to carry around a heavy bucket filled with water. In addition, both are incredibly lightweight, easy to use, and provide a deep clean unlike normal mops.
Additionally, it is important to remember that steam mops only use plain water to cleanse the floor, whereas spin mops use water with some cleaning solutions, so you should think about which method you prefer to clean with.
Both do a great job of cleaning, but if you are not careful, you may be left with streaks from some cleansing solutions with the SpinWave.
The main difference to consider is whether you need a mop that cleans carpets or hardwood floors. For example, the SpinWave can clean all types of floors without damaging them, including laminate and wood flooring, but it cannot be used for carpets.
On the other hand, the steam mop can be used on carpet, but is not suitable for all floors such as hardwood, as it may damage them.
If you are looking for a new mop to clean your floors, then there are a few things that you should consider before choosing either the SpinWave or a steam mop.
If you want an easier method of cleaning than using a bucket and mop, and you want to clean your carpets, then try the steam mop.
If you want a cleaning mop that is lightweight, easy to use, provides a deep cleanse, and can be used on hardwood and laminate floors, then you will want to try the Bissell SpinWave mop.
